I’m scheduled to teach LIT 2013: Intro to Fiction this fall if you’re looking to add a Tuesday/Thursday morning class to your schedule.
What to expect: Students will read and discuss classic and contemporary fiction in the form of short stories, novellas, and novels with the objective of learning to appreciate the nuanced and philosophical layers present in fictional storytelling. Discussion will include common narrative themes, critical interpretations and approaches as well as opportunities to research author biographical information. Students will complete a 3000-4000 word research essay and present critical analysis in small groups throughout the semester. Reading selections will come from the textbook The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
Tuesdays and Thursday 9:30-10:45 a.m.
- The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction edited by Bausch, shortened 8th edition
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
